October 5, 2022

When arriving at Recovery Camp I was excited to be meeting like-minded students and having meaningful conversations with people with lived experience of mental illness. Over the course of 5 days, I saw huge positive changes in people and their self-confidence. Empowering people with human connection was beautiful to witness. Having the time to be fully present and immersed in this setting allowed for deep reflection. I gained valuable insight into the nursing profession from the perspective of those who have received care and those who have provided care. Remembering that I was a person first, future nurse second.
