Recovery Camp was truly one of the most incredible experiences of my nursing career, and I will be taking so many lessons with me as the foundation of my practice and my identity. The team and trust-building activities put us all to the test both physically and mentally, challenging our perceptions of each other, both student and consumer, and breaking stigma one conversation at a time. I had the privilege of meeting the future generation of nurses along with those who are the most disadvantaged within the healthcare system; Recovery Camp placed each person in a position of equity and equality, reminding myself and so many others that we all enter this world, and leave it, with nothing. Camp reminded me that humanity is the pillar of nursing, and we all have the responsibility to be the change needed in the healthcare system. I couldn’t recommend Recovery Camp more, these lessons and resources are invaluable and at our fingertips when face to face with lived experience experts. I would do it again in a heartbeat.
