Kate

Hi, my name is Kate and I am a Registered Nurse. I have many years experience working in different sectors of health care, and have also worked within the mental health sector. Attending Recovery Camp has been beneficial for me in many ways.

As a RN facilitator, I am able to work with the nursing students within a group or as one-to-one, observing their daily interactions with the consumers while being there at all times to debrief, explain, support and educate as needed. The students often tell me that they value these interactions and that they feel supported and encouraged. The enthusiasm of the students is great for me personally, as it encourages me to remember that every student’s learning needs are unique and that I must approach each student individually. Recovery Camp enables me to talk with the students and consumers in a friendly environment, allowing for the development of a therapeutic relationship with ongoing support and learning.

It is always rewarding to see a positive interaction between a student and consumer, both teaching one another and learning from each other.
